Very Short English Stories – To Improve Your English!

Very Short English Stories

A great way to improve your English is to read short stories in English.

When you’re learning a foreign language it can be difficult to read big books with lots of text. But you do want to try to read something.

A common problem that lots of people face is that they will buy long and complicated books to improve their English and then they won’t read them.

A great way to get around this is to read very short English stories. That way you can read and practise your English but you don’t have to read a lot. You can read a little bit every single day and your English will get better.

This is better than buying a book that you won’t read.

Our Thoughts

We hope this list of very short English stories has been useful to you.

Very short English stories are a great way for you to get started on improving your reading skills in English.

Not only do they expose you to lots of new vocabulary, they also help you practise grammar structures.

It is important that you become familiar with new words and grammar and reading is a great way to do that.

When you read you see words that you’ve already come across before and this can help you commit them to memory. The more you see the words the more familiar you will become with them.

Another great feature of these short stories in English is the length.

It’s hard for us to read something when we don’t know how long we will be reading for. If you pick up a big book and it’s too difficult then you’re not going to finish it. However if the text is quite short, then you’ll find it easier to read and you’ll be more likely to finish the story.

The great thing about the length of these stories is that you could feasibly read one in a day. Or if you don’t want to read a story in a day, you could definitely read a chapter in a day.

Make sure you let us know if there are any other skills that you’re looking to improve and we’ll see how we can help you. Remember it’s not just reading that you need to practise, when learning English, it’s also important to practise your writing, listening and speaking skills as well.

Good luck and let us know if you enjoy our recommendations.

Why Use Graded Readers?

Graded readers are a great way to boost your confidence as you learn English. Reading is one of the skills you need to improve while learning a foreign language but it can be difficult to find reading material suitable to your level.

If you choose something that is too difficult, you’re not going to enjoy reading it and you either won’t be able to take all of the information in or you just won’t bother because it’s too difficult. If you read something too easy like a children’s book, then you’re more likely to get bored or you won’t find it challenging.

Graded readers are the happy medium. With graded readers you can read interesting books that have been written specifically for adults but are graded to your level. You can read books that use the current grammar of your level while introducing you to new vocabulary at a manageable pace.

Graded readers have helped thousands if not millions of people to learn foreign languages so now’s the time you should consider reading them yourself. This is why you should take a look at this collection of English stories for intermediates.

We hope that you find these English books for intermediates useful.

CHARLOTTE HATTON

After dedicating six years to teaching English as a foreign language and studying two foreign languages herself, Charlotte Hatton decided to put her English Literature degree to use and start to write books to help people learn English. At first she started with general stories, but after receiving positive feedback she decided to branch out into genres. In 2018 she released a crime series for beginners that was quite popular, so she decided to write a science fiction series.

Charlotte believes that learning languages is important but that it should also be fun, and one of the best ways to make it fun is to learn through stories. Charlotte is currently working on her intermediate series of English short stories which will be released shortly. CHARLOTTE HATTON

Charlotte Hatton was born in Bristol, UK but moved to Paris shortly after completing her English Literature degree. There she spent her days teaching English and learning French. After three years she moves to Italy to do the same thing but this time to learn Italian. Over six years she learnt two languages and taught over 200 students. This experience showed her how people learn languages and what some of the useful ways are to improve your language learning. She found that herself and her students often had problems reading. When she discovered graded readers this changed everything for her. She loved to read at a level that matched her proficiency and she loved that her students could do the same. So she decided to start writing her own graded reader series. Charlotte is currently working on her intermediate collection, but she hopes you enjoy her English stories for beginners while she is working.

CHARLOTTE HATTON

After studying English Literature at University, Charlotte Hatton decided she wanted to move to Europe to teach English. So she spent the next six years of her life living between Paris and Rome where she studied languages and taught English. After watching her students grow and learning two foreign languages herself, Charlotte began to believe that reading in your target language is one of the most useful things you can do to help you learn a foreign language. So she combined her love of English literature and stories, with her knowledge of language development and began to write graded readers for her students. Her students loved the readers so much that she decided to release them as ebooks.

She is currently working on her intermediate series of books, and will hopefully be releasing books in French and Italian as well once her proficiency is high enough.
